Ubuntu 25.10 Advances the Linux Desktop
Published:
Ubuntu 25.10 “Questing Quokka” arrived in October 2025 as the interim release before Ubuntu 26.04 LTS. Interim versions often carry newer kernels, desktop components, compilers, and system libraries earlier than the long-term-support branch.
For Linux users, these releases are especially useful on recent hardware because newer kernels bring updated CPU, GPU, Wi-Fi, storage, and power-management drivers. They also give Canonical several months of real-world testing before technologies are frozen into the next LTS release.
Ubuntu’s six-month cycle therefore serves two audiences: users who want current software and engineers preparing a more conservative platform that businesses may run for many years.
