Google I-O 2026 Expands Agentic AI Across Products
Published:
Google I/O 2026, held on May 19–20, pushed the company’s products further toward agentic AI. Google announced Gemini 3.5 Flash and Gemini Omni while expanding agents across Search, the Gemini app, and developer tools.
Gemini Omni was presented as a model able to work across modalities and generate or edit content from different kinds of input. Google also expanded Antigravity, its agent-first development environment, and showed agents that could act across products rather than only return text.
This changes the engineering problem around AI assistants. A model with access to tools must manage permissions, retain task state, recover from failures, and know when user confirmation is required. The quality of the surrounding agent system becomes as important as the quality of the base model.
