Ubuntu 26.04 LTS Arrives
Published:
Canonical released Ubuntu 26.04 LTS “Resolute Raccoon” on April 23, 2026. It is the eleventh long-term-support Ubuntu release and is intended for users and organizations that value years of maintenance over the faster six-month interim cycle.
An LTS release freezes a broad combination of kernel, compiler, desktop, security, container, and server technologies into a platform that Canonical can maintain predictably. That stability matters for cloud images, development environments, enterprise servers, and hardware certification.
Ubuntu 26.04 also arrived as Linux vendors were paying more attention to AI and new silicon. Supporting recent CPUs, accelerators, confidential-computing features, and modern deployment tooling increasingly requires coordination across the kernel, firmware, libraries, and user-space runtimes.
