Every November 10, Turkiye pauses to remember Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.
In 2022, the Republic was one year away from its centennial. That approaching milestone made remembrance feel like preparation. The question was not only how to honor the founder, but how to enter the second century with seriousness.
Ataturk’s legacy should make people uncomfortable in a useful way. It asks whether education is strong enough, whether public life is guided by reason, whether young people are given confidence, and whether the country is producing knowledge instead of only consuming it.
A centennial is not a finish line. It is a mirror. It shows what has endured, but also what needs repair. November 10 helps place that mirror in front of the country with respect rather than noise.
