Remembering Atatürk on November 10, 2021

Every November 10, Turkiye remembers Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.

In 2021, after long months of disruption, students, teachers, families, and institutions were still trying to recover their rhythm. Education had been interrupted, moved online, reorganized, and tested in ways few people expected.

That experience makes Ataturk’s emphasis on education feel very close. Schools are not only places where information is delivered. They are where a society repairs its future, gives young people confidence, and teaches the habits needed for public life.

Remembering Ataturk in 2021 means thinking about what education requires after disruption: patience, support for teachers, curiosity from students, and the belief that learning cannot be postponed without cost.

The silence at 09:05 is respectful, but it should not be empty. It should remind us that the Republic depends on minds that continue to grow even after difficult years.
