Starting university in 2020 is different from what many students expected. Education, work, communication, and daily life have all become more dependent on digital systems in a very short time.
For Computer Engineering students, this year offers an unusual lesson before the first course even begins: computing infrastructure matters.
Online platforms, communication tools, cloud services, networks, security systems, and software applications are now supporting activities that once happened almost entirely in physical spaces.
During your education, you will learn how these systems work. You will study programming, algorithms, databases, operating systems, computer networks, computer architecture, and software engineering.
Some parts of university life may feel more distant this year, but learning does not need to be passive. Build projects. Collaborate online. Use open-source tools. Read documentation. Ask questions. Try to create rather than only consume technology.
Computer Engineering rewards independence. The habit of learning on your own will be as important as anything you learn in a classroom.
You are beginning your education during a difficult year, but also during a year that clearly demonstrates the importance of computing.
