If you are starting Computer Engineering in 2016, welcome.

You are entering a field that is spreading far beyond the desktop computer. Software now lives in phones, cloud systems, cars, public services, factories, and small embedded devices. That means computer engineering is not only about writing programs. It is about understanding systems.

Your first year may feel slower than you expected. You may want to build impressive applications immediately, while your courses ask you to study programming basics, mathematics, digital logic, and algorithms. Be patient with that foundation. It is the part that will still help you when today’s tools are no longer popular.

Try to build small things while you study. Write a simple web page. Use Linux. Learn version control. Break a program and fix it. Ask why one solution is cleaner than another. These small experiences will make your courses less abstract.

Also learn to work with people. Engineering is rarely a solo performance. You will need to explain ideas, listen to criticism, document your work, and respect users who do not think like you.

Welcome to the department. Let curiosity bring you here, but let discipline carry you forward.

Google unveiled the Pixel 11 family on August 12, 2026, maintaining the late-summer announcement window that Google established with Pixel 9 (August 2024) and Pixel 10 (August 2025).
