Why Unfinished Ideas Stay In My Mind
Published:
Finished things become quiet. Unfinished things keep talking.
I have noticed this with projects, books, emails, and even small household tasks. Something that is complete leaves my mind. Something half-finished returns at strange times.
While drinking coffee, I remember the function I did not finish. While trying to sleep, I remember the message I still need to answer. The task is not happening, but it still uses a little space. Maybe this is why small unfinished things can feel heavier than large finished ones.
Starting is exciting because everything is possible. Finishing is less romantic. It requires decisions. We have to accept that the result will not include every idea.
Sometimes I keep a project open because I do not want to close those possibilities. But an unfinished project does not stay full of possibility forever. After enough time, it becomes guilt. I am trying to become better at choosing a simpler finish.
Remove a feature. Write the last paragraph. Accept the imperfect version.
Completion does not mean the thing is perfect. It only means we decided where to stop. There is freedom in that. A finished small thing gives the mind permission to become interested in something new.
