Every November 10, Türkiye remembers Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

The moment of silence at 09:05 is one of the rare occasions when an entire country seems to pause together.

In 2014, the world is increasingly shaped by technology, global communication, scientific research, and rapid social change. These developments make one part of Atatürk’s legacy especially important: his confidence in education and reason.

Modernization was never only about adopting new machines or institutions. It required a society capable of learning, questioning, and producing knowledge.

That challenge continues.

Remembering Atatürk can therefore be both historical and forward-looking. We honor what was achieved, but we also ask what kind of future we are building.

With respect and gratitude, we remember Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
