Remembering Atatürk on November 10, 2010

Every November 10, Turkiye pauses at 09:05 to remember Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.
In 2010, a generation was growing up with the internet as a normal part of life. For students and young people, Ataturk’s message should not be treated as a fixed sentence repeated on special days. It is a challenge: use your mind, develop yourself, and take the future seriously.
Ataturk trusted youth not because youth is automatically wise, but because every republic eventually depends on the generation that inherits it. That trust carries a demand. It asks young people to study, to question, to produce, and to avoid the comfort of simply repeating what others say.
The Republic was not built so that later generations could only admire it. It was built so that they could improve it. That is a harder form of respect.
On November 10, the country becomes quiet for a moment. The better tribute begins after the silence: in classrooms, laboratories, libraries, workshops, and every place where people try to do their work well.
We remember Ataturk with respect and gratitude.
