Sevmemeliyiz

Being loved is not always the same as being seen.

I think Sevmemeliyiz understands this very well. There is something more painful than somebody leaving you. It is having them close enough to know you, yet somehow feeling invisible beside them.

That kind of loneliness is difficult to explain.

You can talk for hours and still feel unheard. You can tell somebody exactly what hurts you, and somehow they understand every word except the important part. After a while, you begin to wonder whether you are asking for too much.

Maybe I am too sensitive.

Maybe I expect too much.

Maybe this is simply what love is.

I think many people stay too long because of these questions.

There is a line in the emotional world of this song that keeps returning to me: how can someone who seems to understand everything fail to understand the person standing right in front of them?

I have asked myself versions of that question before.

Sometimes the people who know the most about us understand us the least. They know our history, our habits, our favorite things and the stories we have told a hundred times. But knowledge is not the same as understanding.

Understanding requires attention.

It requires curiosity.

It requires noticing when the person you love is slowly becoming quieter.

That last part matters.

People rarely disappear from a relationship in one day. They become tired first. They explain less. They stop correcting misunderstandings. They begin keeping small disappointments to themselves because speaking about them no longer seems useful.

From outside, everything may still look normal.

Inside, something is already ending.

I find the idea of knowingly burning especially painful. There are situations where we understand perfectly well that something is hurting us, yet we continue. Not because we are foolish, but because hope can be stronger than evidence.

Maybe tomorrow will be different.

Maybe they will finally understand.

Maybe one more conversation will change everything.

Hope can keep people alive.

It can also keep them somewhere they should have left long ago.

I have learned that love does not become healthier simply because it is strong. A feeling can be deep and still be wrong for your life. You can love someone sincerely and still become less yourself beside them.

That is one of the hardest truths to accept.

We are taught to admire people who fight for love. We hear much less about the courage required to stop fighting when love has become a place of constant pain.

Sometimes leaving is not giving up.

Sometimes it is learning.

That is why the title Sevmemeliyiz feels sad rather than cold to me. It does not sound like someone who has decided love is useless. It sounds like someone who has loved enough to understand the cost.

Maybe there are people we should not love.

Not because they are terrible people.

Not because the feeling is unreal.

But because loving them slowly teaches us to ignore ourselves.

And no love should require that.

I still believe being understood is one of the most intimate things another person can give us. Not agreement with everything we say, not perfect knowledge of every thought, but the feeling that when we speak, somebody is actually there.

They see us.

They hear us.

They make the effort to know the person behind the words.

Without that, even love can become lonely.

Perhaps that is the strangest pain of all.

To have someone beside you and still miss being found.
